FCC 600MHz Auction Update

In March of 2016, the FCC announced their plans to repurpose spectrum in the “low band” - more specifically the 600MHz band. This plan had a goal of clearing and auctioning a total of 126MHz of spectrum. At the end of the fourth stage reverse auction ending March 30th, 2017 - the goal fell short with only 84MHz of spectrum being cleared. 70MHz of this spectrum is earmarked for licensed use, with the remaining 14MHz for wireless microphones. The auction brought in revenues to the tune of $19.8 billion. Since the close of the auction, the repacking transition has begun, and is expected to be completed in July of 2020. The first 16 TV channels are required to be off-air by October 25th.
